# Sinop (TR SIC)

**UN/LOCODE:** TR SIC
**Country:** Turkey
**Water Body:** Black Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** 42.0500, 35.1667

Once a major ancient Black Sea port, Sinop lost its commercial weight as trade shifted to Samsun and Trabzon, and today it handles only about 1,030 tonnes of cargo and 8,240 passengers a year. Sitting on the Boztepe peninsula, the shallow harbour serves fishing boats, ferries and small tankers, with a cargo quay of just 1.8 m — too shallow for modern boxships. It has no rail link. Forwarders with commercial freight should use Samsun, Turkey's largest Black Sea port and the only one with a railway connection.
