Acquired by the Fox Group from Associated British Ports in 2024, Silloth is Cumbria's most northerly commercial port, set on the tidal Solway Firth. It is fundamentally an agribulk harbour: wheat for Carr's Solway flour mill, molasses for animal feed and fertiliser for Origin Fertilizers move across a tide-gate dock with roughly 4.9 metres alongside, accessible only to smaller vessels. Annual throughput runs around 140,000–156,000 tonnes across some 50 ship calls. There are no container services, no RoRo and no large-scale dangerous-goods handling here. Under Fox ownership the port is adding aggregates traffic alongside its traditional farm-sector bulks. Shippers needing boxes or larger breakbulk lots should look to Liverpool or Heysham instead.
