Ten terminals spread across five basins give Sète a genuinely multi-purpose profile: dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, rolling freight, vehicles, forest products, reefer cargo and containers all have dedicated facilities. As a deep-water port with a permissible draught of around 13.5 m, it ranks as the second-busiest commercial port on the French Mediterranean after Marseille-Fos, handling some 5.3 million tonnes in 2022. Its breakbulk quay takes heavy-lift pieces of over 72 tonnes, while a DFDS RoRo ferry links Sète with Turkey. Hinterland access is multimodal, combining road, rail and Rhône river connections into the Occitanie logistics network. Container throughput, however, stays modest compared with Fos, so pure box shipments are usually better served there. For agribulk, project and RoRo cargo in the western Mediterranean, Sète (FR SET) is a competitive option.
