Selaata exists, in freight terms, to serve the phosphate and fertiliser works of the resident chemical company on Lebanon's northern Mediterranean coast. The jetty handles roughly 360,000 tonnes a year: around 178,000 tonnes of imports such as phosphate rock, machine parts and firebricks, against some 180,000 tonnes of cement and chemical exports. This is a dedicated industrial berth for bulk and breakbulk linked to the plant, not an open container or customs port for third-party shippers. Road access follows the coastal highway toward Batroun and the wider road network of northern Lebanon. Containerised consignments are best routed through Beirut, while general and bulk cargo can alternatively use Tripoli.
