A quay of roughly 200 m, vessels up to about 250 m and 8 m draught, and catches rising around 20% a year since 2015 – the numbers at Sauðárkrókur describe a busy fishing port on Iceland's northern Skagafjörður. Operations revolve around FISK Seafood, one of Iceland's largest fisheries companies, which lands and processes fish – haddock in particular – on site and ships part of it out in containers. As catches grow, boats from other harbours increasingly unload here as well. Reefer and container movements are tied to the seafood trade rather than to general liner shipping. The hinterland is reached via Iceland's Ring Road, with no rail anywhere in the country. For mainline services, shippers turn to Reykjavík or Akureyri, served by Eimskip and Samskip.
