Thirteen berths across two finger piers, a deep-draught sea island and dedicated crude lines make Sarroch (Porto Foxi) an energy terminal rather than a general cargo port. Located southwest of Cagliari in southern Sardinia, it exists to serve the Sarlux/Saras refinery, handling crude oil, refined products, chemicals and LPG. The outer berths moor tankers of up to 300,000 tonnes for crude discharge, while the refinery processes over 15 million tonnes a year — about 300,000 barrels per day, or roughly a fifth of Italy's refining capacity. Annual throughput is around 26.5 million tonnes across some 1,050 vessel calls, all liquid bulk, with no container or breakbulk handling. Shippers needing containers, ro-ro or general cargo use nearby Cagliari (Porto Canale, CICT) or mainland gateways such as Livorno and Genoa. Hinterland links are limited to pipelines into the refinery and road movement of finished products.
