At kilometre 584 of the Paraná, Santa Fe is the furthest-upstream port on the Paraguay–Paraná waterway that ocean-going ships can still reach. Its container and general-cargo terminal offers about 270 m of quay, roughly 5 m of draught and storage for up to 5,000 TEU, handling vessels up to 190 m long. The port moves containers, dry bulk and general cargo on both import and export. A river shuttle barge of around 500 TEU also links Santa Fe with Puerto La Plata twice a month, carrying import and export boxes. Its hinterland covers Argentina's Centro, NOA and NEA regions. For larger or time-critical ocean container volumes, the deeper ports of Rosario and Buenos Aires/La Plata remain the stronger options.
