Central Kalimantan's palm oil, rubber, timber and rattan industries feed much of the cargo passing through Sampit, a river port on the Mentaya River in Indonesian Borneo. Sitting upriver from the Java Sea, it functions as an export outlet for the agricultural and forestry output of its hinterland. A channel depth of around 7.9 metres and quay depths near 6.4 metres mean Sampit mainly handles bulk, breakbulk and smaller parcels of liquid cargo rather than large containerised volumes; a major container terminal is not confirmed.
