Loading roughly 1,000 tonnes an hour, the Saliña Pier on Bonaire exists for a single purpose: shipping the solar salt produced by Cargill's works at the island's southern tip. The T-head jetty uses a conveyor and a semi-fixed spout to load oceangoing bulk carriers. At over 99 % purity, Bonaire's salt goes about a third to the Caribbean, a third to North America and the rest to Europe and Africa. This is a dedicated salt terminal, not a container or general-cargo port. Ordinary freight uses the town pier at Kralendijk, and containers move via Curaçao's port of Willemstad.
