On Yemen's Red Sea coast in Hodeidah Governorate, As Salif is a salt-export point: high-purity rock salt from nearby quarries is loaded in bulk at a dolphin berth with a conveyor and about 13 m draft, while the port also imports wheat, maize and other bulk for the region. Its commercial usefulness is currently heavily constrained, however. Airstrikes in spring 2025 cratered berths and destroyed handling equipment, and Red Sea ports' capacity has fallen sharply. Calls at Salif and nearby Hodeidah also require UNVIM clearance via Djibouti. For dependable imports, shippers increasingly route through Aden in the south.
