Crowley and Vineyard Wind are remaking Salem Harbour into one of New England's first offshore-wind staging ports, due to open in 2026 on the site of a demolished coal-and-oil power station. Containerised freight and customs clearance for the region run through Boston's Conley Terminal, roughly 25 km south. In practice Salem is an industrial and energy port, not a multipurpose box or breakbulk facility.
