Wheat, maize, sugar, fertiliser and mining concentrates are the staples of Salaverry, the bulk-oriented port serving Trujillo and the agribusiness and mining country of northern Peru. Two piers — one for general cargo, one dedicated to sugar and ethanol — work alongside grain silos holding some 60,000 tonnes and a mineral-concentrate capacity of around 30,000 tonnes. Operated under concession by Tramarsa since 2018, the port is being upgraded and has set aside a new container yard, though box volumes remain modest. It is not yet a full container-line port. For containerised trade and large consignments, shippers rely on Callao, with Paita as a northern alternative on the Pacific.
