Unlike Denmark's commercial bulk and box ports, Rudkøbing on the island of Langeland (UN/LOCODE DK RKB) is essentially a local ferry and marina harbour. It is the departure point for the ferry to the small neighbouring island of Strynø, but a fairway depth of around 1.8 metres and a quay of only some 3–4 metres sharply limit merchant shipping. Commercial freight relevance is therefore low, the harbour serving mainly leisure craft and local supply. Regional cargo is better handled at Svendborg, Odense or Fredericia.
