Sundahöfn (IS REY), Iceland's principal cargo and container port east of Reykjavík city centre, handles almost all of the country's container traffic — roughly 228,000 TEU and about 2 million tonnes a year. Two carriers run the quays: Eimskip, with four berths along a 900-metre quay wall, and Samskip at the Vogabakki terminal, together offering more than 850 reefer plugs for frozen-fish exports. Eimskip posted Q2 2026 revenue of €225.4 million (+11.4% year-on-year) and has channelled approximately €20 million since early 2026 into refurbishing its Reykjavík distribution centre, while a new facility in Selfoss is now under construction. Imports are dominated by consumer goods, building materials and industrial supplies; exports by seafood and aluminium products. As an EEA but non-EU port, Reykjavik applies its own Icelandic customs procedures; the hinterland is served exclusively by road, Iceland having no rail or inland-waterway network. The Vör cruise terminal at Skarfabakki opened in May 2026 and now handles all cruise calls, while the old harbour serves mainly fishing vessels. For northern Iceland, shippers also use Akureyri or Reykjanesbær (Helguvík).
