Ras Tanura is the world's largest crude-oil export terminal, with four offshore Sea Island berths that let up to sixteen VLCCs load simultaneously. Operated by Saudi Aramco, it has a loading capacity of around nine million barrels of hydrocarbons a day, though actual throughput has run well below that under OPEC+ cuts—roughly 5 to 5.5 million barrels a day in 2024. Pipelines from the Abqaiq and Ghawar fields feed the terminal, which is backed by a refinery of about 550,000 b/d and tank farms holding over fifty million barrels. The cargo is crude oil, refined products and NGL; containers and general cargo have no place at this pure energy port. In June 2026, Aramco resumed crude loading at Ras Tanura after a roughly four-month halt. For forwarders, Ras Tanura matters only for tanker and oil-and-gas project logistics; containerised or conventional consignments should be routed through King Abdulaziz Port at Dammam, while Jubail serves petrochemical industrial cargo.
