Roughly 240 vessels a year call at Ras Shukheir, and almost all of them are tankers: this is an offshore crude-oil and LPG loading terminal on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez, not a general cargo port. Operated by GUPCO, it consists of three sea berths, the largest able to take tankers up to 350 m in length and around 25 m draft, with loading rates near 55,000 barrels per hour. Containers, breakbulk and Ro-Ro traffic are not handled here, and a commercial customs clearance for consolidated shipments is not confirmed. GUPCO held output from its associated fields at about 57,000 barrels a day recently and invested around US$452 million in FY 2024/25, including replacement of the Ras Bakr–Ras Shukheir pipeline. Hinterland links are limited to pipelines feeding the refineries and the nearby Cairo–Safaga road. Forwarders moving boxed or conventional cargo therefore route via Ain Sokhna or Adabiya/Suez further north.
