At the north-eastern tip of Qatar, just 67 km from the offshore North Field, Ras Laffan is the world's largest artificial harbour and its biggest LNG export facility. QatarEnergy owns and operates the port, which shipped around 77 million tonnes of LNG in 2025 – close to a fifth of global LNG trade. Its berths include six for LNG, six for liquid products, one for sulphur and six for dry cargo, with gas piped from the North Field, liquefied in Ras Laffan Industrial City and loaded onto Q-Flex and Q-Max carriers. The North Field East and South expansions are set to lift capacity to 142 million tonnes a year by 2030, and the first North Field East train produced its first LNG in November 2025. In March 2026, attacks on the complex damaged part of its capacity, which QatarEnergy expects to take several years to fully repair. Containers and conventional general cargo are not part of this energy port's profile, which also covers condensate, LPG, sulphur and GTL products. For forwarders, Ras Laffan is geared to gas, tanker and project logistics; boxes and conventional cargo go through Hamad Port south of Doha, with some industrial freight via Mesaieed.
