Built up in the 1980s as Yemen's oil sector expanded, Ras Isa (YE RAI) is a crude-oil export terminal on the Red Sea coast about 60 km north of Hodeidah, not a general-cargo or container port. A pipeline of roughly 440 km links it to the Marib producing region, with a design capacity near 200,000 barrels per day. For years the floating storage tanker FSO Safer held the crude offshore until a UN operation offloaded its 1.1 million barrels in 2023 to avert a major spill. The Houthi-controlled terminal was heavily damaged in US airstrikes in April 2025; satellite imagery from November 2025 shows rebuilt jetties and early general-cargo handling, yet the marine terminal remains commercially closed. It offers no reliable container, breakbulk or RoRo capability and no regular civilian customs clearance. Forwarders moving cargo to Yemen use Aden for containers and general cargo, while the Saudi Red Sea ports of Jeddah or King Abdullah Port are practical regional alternatives.
