Around 60 vessel calls a year define Ras Al Khafji (SA RAR), an offshore tanker terminal roughly 15 km off Saudi Arabia's north-eastern coast in the former Saudi–Kuwaiti Divided Zone. Built to export crude from the Khafji field — its first shipment dates to 1960 — the terminal offers four tanker loading berths, able to load two ships and discharge one at a time while others wait at anchor. The main cargoes are crude oil, naphtha and fuel oil, with general cargo transferred to barges in the anchorage. Operations are firmly energy-focused and not set up for container or liner traffic. There is no conventional hinterland link for third-party cargo; throughput is tied to the oil infrastructure. For containers, breakbulk or general freight, Ras Tanura, Jubail or the container port of Dammam are the appropriate alternatives.
