Operated by Tunisia's Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports (OMMP), Radès is the country's principal container and RoRo gateway, sitting just east of Tunis and handling about 79% of Tunisia's containerised cargo tonnage. Container throughput rose 9% in 2025 to roughly 538,000 TEU, up from about 492,000 TEU in 2024. The terminal handles containers and rolling units—mainly trailer traffic—across a customs-controlled zone of roughly 48 hectares with six transit sheds, and accounts for around 21% of all Tunisian port traffic and some 80% of national RoRo volumes. A tender has been launched to build additional berths 7, 8 and 9, which should significantly raise capacity for container ships. Hinterland distribution runs primarily by road into Greater Tunis and the interior, supported by a rail connection. As the main customs clearance point for Tunisian foreign trade, Radès is central to import and export flows. For dry bulk and phosphates, Sfax is the usual alternative; Bizerte handles energy and bulk, while passenger and cruise traffic uses neighbouring La Goulette.
