Also written Port Yartou, this site on the Whiteside Channel in Chilean Tierra del Fuego began in 1908 as the region's first industrial sawmill, founded by Alberto Baeriswyl. With the timber trade gone, it no longer functions as a loading place; today it is best known for the Casa-museo Alberto Baeriswyl heritage house. No commercial sea freight — container, customs or breakbulk — is handled, and a cargo pier of just about 1.8 m depth would not permit modern operations in any case. Forwarders with Tierra del Fuego cargo work through Punta Arenas or Porvenir.
