APM Terminals Yucatán operates the container terminal at Puerto Progreso (MXPGO), Mexico's principal gateway for the Yucatán Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico, handling roughly 150,000 TEU a year and over 54,000 TEU in the first half of 2024 alone. Road links connect the port to Mérida and onward to the rest of the Yucatán, though rail access remains limited compared to Gulf ports further west. Shippers without direct access to Progreso commonly route cargo via Altamira or Veracruz instead. The ongoing channel deepening project positions Progreso to accommodate larger container vessels as regional trade volumes rise.
