Steam and coking coal, not containers, defined Puerto Prodeco (CO PPR), a dedicated bulk export terminal on Colombia's Caribbean coast in Magdalena department. Built by Prodeco, Glencore's Colombian coal arm, it loaded railed coal from the Calenturitas and La Jagua mines onto Capesize bulkers via an open roadstead and direct loading system, serving Europe, North America and Asia. The facility handles only dry bulk; no container, breakbulk or reefer services are available. After Prodeco placed its Colombian mines under care and maintenance in 2020 and Glencore relinquished the concessions in 2021, coal throughput has fallen sharply. For forwarders with containerised, project or mixed cargo, the terminal therefore offers no practical use. General and box cargo for the Santa Marta region moves instead through Santa Marta, Barranquilla or Cartagena.
