Threading 1,500 km of Patagonian fjords past glaciers and remote inlets, the Navimag cargo-and-passenger vessel ties Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt in roughly four days. The run carries vehicles, breakbulk and travellers, and the port supplies Chile's remote Última Esperanza region. Puerto Natales also serves as the springboard for tourism to Torres del Paine National Park, about 70 km away. For local salmon aquaculture and general resupply, the ferry link is practically important. It is not, however, a container or customs gateway with international liner calls. For customs-cleared or containerised freight into the Magallanes region, Punta Arenas is the port that counts.
