Salt is the reason Puerto Morro Redondo exists: on Pacific Isla Cedros off Baja California, Exportadora de Sal (ESSA, jointly held by the Mexican state and Mitsubishi) runs one of the world's largest salt-loading operations. Brine evaporated at Guerrero Negro is barged to Cedros, bulldozed into stockpiles and loaded onto bulk carriers from the island. The open roadstead offers roughly 23 m at anchorage and 17 m at the cargo pier, enough water for large dry-bulk ships. Beyond salt, the island economy rests on commercial fishing for spiny lobster and abalone. There is no container handling, no general-cargo customs gateway and no RoRo here. For containerised or customs-cleared consignments, Ensenada on the mainland is the relevant port.
