APM Terminals runs the Moín Container Terminal (MCT, UN/LOCODE CR PMN) on a purpose-built artificial island off Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, opened in 2019 under a long-term build-and-operate concession. The 80-hectare facility handled 1.32 million TEU in 2024, making Puerto Moín the country's primary container gateway. Its 650-metre quay offers 14.5 metres of depth and six super-post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, handling vessels up to about 8,500 TEU at an annual capacity near 1.2 million TEU with room to expand. Inland connections run via Route 32 to the Central Valley and San José, where most imports clear customs and distribute. Breakbulk, project cargo and cruise traffic stay largely at the adjacent older Port of Limón. For Pacific-coast shipments, Puerto Caldera is the practical alternative.
