Ecuador's banana and shrimp exports converge on Guayaquil, the country's principal seaport and the world's largest banana-export gateway. Roughly 90% of national containerised trade passes through this river port on the Guayas, which handled 2.4 million TEU in 2024. Customs clearance runs through Ecuador's SENAE, with road links to the hinterland. The Guayas approach channel is being deepened to take neo-Panamax ships. For deepwater calls clear of the river, downstream Posorja (DP World) is the alternative, with Puerto Bolívar near Machala adding banana capacity.
