Puerto de Hierro is a single-purpose bulk berth rather than a general cargo port: it sits on the north shore of the Gulf of Paria in Venezuela's Sucre state and has long shipped bauxite for the aluminium industry. Its one berth carries only about 6 m of draft and takes vessels up to roughly 45,000 dwt, with no container, breakbulk or liner facilities. The sheltered bay also serves as a supply and anchorage point for the nearby Corocoro offshore oil field.
