Porto Alegre (BR POA) is best understood as a regional river port rather than a deep-sea gateway, serving the farming and industrial economy of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. For container-heavy or large overseas consignments, Rio Grande remains the stronger option, with Porto Alegre handling inland distribution.
