Roughly 160 kilometres inland on the Columbia River, Portland gives ocean vessels deep-water access from the Pacific into the industrial interior of Oregon. The port ranks among the West Coast's leading gateways for automobiles, handling about 329,639 vehicles in 2025 on RoRo services in both directions.
