# Port Washington (US PWA)

**UN/LOCODE:** US PWA
**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** Lake Michigan; Great Lakes
**Harbor Size:** Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Breakwater)
**GPS:** 43.3833, -87.8667

Despite its name, Port Washington no longer functions as a commercial cargo harbour. The artificial basin at the mouth of Sauk Creek received coal for the lakeside power station until 2004, when a switch to natural gas ended commercial traffic; today it serves recreational boating, charter fishing and a marina on Lake Michigan's western shore. Shippers will find no container, breakbulk or customs facilities on site. The nearest commercial gateway is Port Milwaukee, roughly 40 km south, which handles dry bulk, breakbulk and project cargo.
