Once home to the Hess Port Reading refinery — closed in 2013 — this site on the Arthur Kill has narrowed to petroleum storage and fuel transfer within the wider New York/New Jersey port. Terminals such as Buckeye move gasoline, diesel and related products by barge and pipeline rather than by container. This is an energy and liquid-bulk berth, not a box or breakbulk port: no liner, reefer or RoRo services call here. Tank barges and smaller product tankers reach the facilities via the roughly 9.4 m Arthur Kill, with Conrail rail and road links serving the tank farms inland. For containers, neighbouring Port Newark–Elizabeth is the gateway, while additional petroleum terminals operate at Linden and Bayway. For forwarders handling refined fuels or chemicals, Port Reading is a specialised but narrowly focused call.
