Despite sitting inside one of the Baltic's busiest ports, Port Polnocny (the Northern Port of Gdansk) is not a container facility at all — it is a dedicated dry-bulk terminal for coal and iron ore. It is run by Cargo Handling and Storage Company Port Polnocny Ltd, part of the Belgian Sea-Invest group, with two piers (one for ore, one for coal) linked by belt conveyors. Coal export capacity reaches about 25,000 tonnes/day and iron ore about 22,000 tonnes/day. Storage holds about 1.4 million tonnes, and each pier's 15-metre draught allows vessels of up to 150,000 tonnes of cargo to be worked. As the northernmost ice-free deep-water berth on the Baltic, it suits Capesize and Panamax bulkers feeding Polish industry by rail. Forwarders with containers or breakbulk must use the adjacent Baltic Hub (DCT Gdansk, PL GDN) or the port of Gdynia instead. Customs is handled by the Polish customs authority within the EU single market.
