Some 7.7 million tonnes per year of liquefaction capacity define the Port Méthanier east of Skikda, Algeria's dedicated gas-export quay rather than a general cargo berth. State energy group Sonatrach ships liquefied natural gas (LNG), LPG and other petroleum products here from the adjacent Skikda complex. In March 2024 the newly built M3 jetty received its first large LNG carrier, signalling renewed export ambition. Turkey, France, Italy and Spain are the principal buyers of Algerian LNG. There is no general container or breakbulk role at this terminal. Forwarders handling conventional trade goods or customs clearance should route through the general port of Skikda or Algiers instead.
