Northern bleached softwood kraft pulp and newsprint are the goods that define Port Mellon, a single-purpose industrial berth on the eastern shore of British Columbia's Howe Sound. The site exists to serve the Howe Sound Pulp and Paper mill: bulk carriers and breakbulk vessels load finished pulp and paper, while wood chips and process chemicals arrive by scow and barge. The terminal handles no container traffic and offers no general third-party customs clearance, so it is not an option for mixed or containerised freight. Road access runs along the Sunshine Coast highway and marine access via Howe Sound, but there is no direct rail link. Shippers needing container, breakbulk or cleared import capacity should route through the Port of Vancouver, roughly 50 km to the south, with Squamish Terminals as a further forest-products alternative.
