On the western Gulf of Lion in Occitania, Port-La-Nouvelle ranks as France's third-largest Mediterranean commercial port, moving around 1.55 million tonnes in 2021. Its business is bulk and liquid cargo rather than containers: petroleum products (over 1 million tonnes imported), cereals exported toward North Africa, dry bulk, breakbulk and project shipments. Since 2023 a dedicated marine-renewable-energy terminal has supported the assembly of floating offshore wind farms off Gruissan (EOLMED) and Le Barcarès (EFGL). Road and rail link the port inland toward Narbonne and the Aude valley, and an expansion programme targets 6 million tonnes by 2030. The port runs no container liner services, so boxed freight is better handled at Marseille-Fos or Sète. For grain, dry and liquid bulk and wind-energy components, however, Port-La-Nouvelle (FR NOU) is a strong regional option.
