# Port Hood

**Country:** Canada
**Water Body:** Gulf of Saint Lawrence; North Atlantic Ocean
**GPS:** 46.0000, -61.5500

About fifty small fishing boats work out of Murphys Pond, the working harbour of Port Hood on Cape Breton Island's Gulf of Saint Lawrence coast in Nova Scotia, Canada. Since a severe storm destroyed the original harbour facilities in 1963, the site — managed by the local Harbour Authority — has served only inshore fishing, with the Ceilidh Fishermen's Cooperative landing mostly lobster and crab plus some groundfish such as flounder and hake. Port Hood has no UN/LOCODE and no commercial cargo infrastructure; for actual seafreight, Port Hawkesbury/Point Tupper and Halifax are the relevant alternatives.
