With silos and flat storage holding more than 400,000 tonnes and a conveyor shiploader serving vessels up to Panamax size, Port Giles is a single-purpose bulk grain terminal on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. Opened in 1970 and operated by agribusiness Viterra, it handles loose wheat and barley for export and nothing else — there are no container berths, breakbulk quays or general customs clearance. Grain arrives by road from surrounding farms, as the terminal has no rail connection. The deep-water jetty sits on an open roadstead, loading directly from shore conveyors. Shippers needing containers or breakbulk use Port Adelaide's Outer Harbor, while additional grain capacity is available at Viterra's Wallaroo terminal.
