Pipelines, tank farms and dedicated container berths shared by more than a dozen oil companies and several terminal operators define Port Everglades in south Florida, spread across Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach. The port combines three roles: container shipping, energy throughput and one of the world's busiest cruise operations. On the freight side it set an all-time high of 1,167,552 TEU in fiscal 2025, with liner services reaching more than 150 ports in some 70 countries, concentrated on the Caribbean, Latin America and the Mediterranean. As Florida's leading petroleum port, it moved roughly 132 million barrels of refined products and fuels twelve counties and five international airports. Containers and petroleum aside, it also handles break-bulk and dry bulk, for about 26 million tons of cargo a year. Inland distribution runs mainly by truck via the nearby interstates, supported by rail. For extra container capacity in south Florida, PortMiami is the obvious alternative, with the Port of Palm Beach serving regional flows.
