Deep-water container berths, pipelines and tank farms shared by more than a dozen oil companies define Port Everglades (US PEF) in south Florida, spread across Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach. The port combines three roles — container shipping, energy throughput and one of the world's busiest cruise operations — and in fiscal 2025 peaked in all three at once, including an all-time high of 1,167,552 TEU. The USD 471 million Southport Turning Notch Extension has been completed, adding berth space and room for six new super post-Panamax gantry cranes. Liner services from the container terminal reach more than 150 ports in some 70 countries, concentrated on the Caribbean, Latin America and the Mediterranean. As Florida's leading petroleum port it moved roughly 132 million barrels of refined products and fuels twelve counties and five international airports. Break-bulk and dry bulk round out about 26 million tons of cargo a year, and a 2025 study puts the port's economic contribution at some USD 48.3 billion and close to 300,000 Florida jobs. An updated master and vision plan earmarks around USD 3.8 billion in further capital investment. Inland distribution runs mainly by truck via the nearby interstates with rail support; PortMiami is the obvious alternative for extra container capacity, while the Port of Palm Beach serves regional flows.
