Roughly five million tonnes of LNG a year, not boxes, define what moves through Port Dabhol on the Ratnagiri coast of Maharashtra. The facility is an LNG import and regasification terminal operated by GAIL under Ratnagiri Gas and Power (RGPPL), with three 160,000 m³ storage tanks commissioned in 2013. Regasified gas feeds western and southern India through the Dabhol–Bangalore and Dabhol–Panvel pipelines, and a purpose-built breakwater now allows vessel calls even during the monsoon. There is no container, breakbulk or general customs handling at the site. Shippers with containerised cargo in the region use Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva) near Mumbai or Mormugao in Goa. For freight forwarders, Dabhol is a highly specialised energy port rather than a mixed-cargo option.
