Port Bonython is an energy and liquid-bulk port on South Australia's Spencer Gulf, not the container hub a generic 'port' label might suggest. Its 2.4-km jetty, built in 1982 and leased to Santos, exports crude oil and natural-gas liquids piped 659 km from the Cooper Basin at Moomba, and imports diesel, with hydrocarbons shipped onward across the Asia-Pacific. An open roadstead, the berth handles smaller Capesize vessels of up to around 110,000 tonnes. A separate bulk-export facility is proposed alongside the Santos jetty, which would add dry-bulk capability. Container, RoRo and conventional breakbulk traffic are absent here. For containers in South Australia, Port Adelaide's Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal is the choice, with nearby Whyalla handling ore and bulk.
