Better known for sport fishing, its Coast Guard station and tourist ferries than for cargo, Port Aransas (US YAS) on Mustang Island still has a genuine freight role through the Aransas Terminal Company. Its multi-use marine terminal on the deep Corpus Christi Ship Channel supports offshore drilling and production logistics along with breakbulk, project and dry-bulk cargo. The town's own basin, by contrast, is shallow and geared to fishing boats and ferries rather than ships.
