For decades Paramount Petroleum ran Point Wells, on Puget Sound just north of Seattle, as a marine fuel and asphalt-oil terminal. Transfers stopped in June 2020, but the permits were kept active and the company bought the site back in 2024, so commercial oil operations could resume from 2026. The cargo pier offers around 11 m alongside depth, adequate for tankers, yet it is dedicated to liquid petroleum products — there is no container, breakbulk or RoRo capability. The Town of Woodway annexed the property in 2024, and the operator retains the legal right to use the pier for fuel and asphalt. For containerised and general cargo, the region's gateways are the ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
