Pohnpei is a supply port first and a trade port second: it exists mainly to bring goods to the Federated States of Micronesia rather than to export them. Located at Dekehtik and also known as Langar Road, it handles almost exclusively containerised imports on the Matson and Kyowa lines, around 80 boxes and three to five vessels a month. With no shore-based container cranes, ships discharge using their own gear at six to ten moves an hour, and a separate fishing dock serves the local fleet. As a feeder port it depends on transhipment through Guam, the regional hub for onward Pacific services.
