Steel, fertiliser feedstock, project cargo, breakbulk and bulk commodities make up the working cargo of Phu My, a deep-water port on the Thi Vai river in Vietnam's Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Among Vietnam's first deep-water ports, it has general-cargo berths able to take vessels up to about 80,000 DWT. Phu My forms part of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai complex, which handled close to 6.5 million TEU in 2024 (up 33%) and reached nearly 6.3 million TEU of mother-vessel throughput in the first ten months of 2025. The cluster's approach channel, dredged to 15.5 m and the deepest in the country, lets ships of 160,000-200,000 DWT work largely independent of the tide and earned Cai Mep a place in the 2024 World Bank Container Port Performance Index top seven. Pure container volumes move through neighbouring terminals such as CMIT and TCIT, while Phu My itself supports the adjacent zone of steel mills, fertiliser plants and gas-fired power stations, with inland transport to Ho Chi Minh City by road and the Mekong Delta waterway network. For container feeder traffic, shippers can also use Cat Lai in Ho Chi Minh City.
