Olive oil, soap, pasta, asphalt, aluminium and grain move out of Pescara, while wood, coal, bauxite, nitrates, fertilisers, cement, iron and cereals come in. This small Abruzzo port at the river mouth handles general and bulk cargoes but no containers, with around 170 ship calls, 330,000 tonnes and 60,000 passengers a year. Vessel size is capped at roughly 150 metres length, 6.0 metres draught and about 4,500 dwt. The northern bank and the Porto Canale are given over to the fishing fleet and to the Marina di Pescara, one of the central Adriatic's largest with over 1,000 berths. A fish harbour and limited repair facilities round out the picture. Forwarders with boxes or larger parcels are better served by Ortona, Ancona or Ravenna.
