Pennington is not a conventional container port — it is a pure offshore crude-oil export terminal off Nigeria's Bayelsa coast, without a physical quay. The facility lies roughly 32 km off the mouth of the Fishtown River and is operated by Chevron. Three production platforms connect via submarine pipelines to two single-point-mooring (SPM) buoys and a floating storage unit with about 2.2 million barrels of capacity, built to handle VLCC loading. Only crude oil is loaded here, through SPM and FPSO systems; there is no road or rail hinterland, with all inbound and outbound flows moving by pipeline and tanker. Nigeria remained Africa's largest oil producer in 2026 at around 1.9 million barrels a day, with new export infrastructure such as the FSO unit near Bonny easing evacuation logistics across the Niger Delta. Shippers needing container, general-cargo or standard customs services should route through Onne, Port Harcourt or Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can).
