**UN/LOCODE:** EE PRN
**Country:** Estonia
**Water Body:** Gulf of Riga; Baltic Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Small
**Harbor Type:** River (Natural)
**GPS:** 58.3834, 24.4800

Around 1.7 million tonnes of cargo and some 1,050 vessel calls pass through Pärnu each year, almost entirely as bulk and breakbulk rather than containers. Timber, wood pulp and flax dominate the export side, while fertilisers, salt and coal make up the principal imports. Operated by AS Pärnu Sadam, the harbour sits at the mouth of the Pärnu River on the north-eastern shore of the Gulf of Riga. Its hinterland in southern Estonia supplies up to 45 percent of the country's exported forest resources and roughly 65 percent of its peat, fed to the quays by road and rail. A channel depth of about 7 metres confines traffic to smaller coasters, and the port company runs its own ice-breaking through the winter months. Shippers needing container services or deeper draught typically route via Muuga near Tallinn or nearby Riga in Latvia.
