Eighteen berths, three single-point moorings and rail sidings that take nineteen full trainloads set the scale of Paradip, which handled 156.45 million tonnes in financial year 2025/26 — its best result since opening in 1966 and second only to Deendayal among India's major ports. Cargo across the Bay of Bengal is dominated by crude oil and petroleum products, iron ore, thermal and coking coal, chrome and manganese ore, ferro-alloys, fertiliser, clinker and project cargo; this is a bulk and energy operation, not a container gateway. The 4.01 percent gain over the previous year fed into a national record of 915.17 million tonnes across India's major ports. The state-owned Paradip Port Authority runs the estate, while JSW Paradip Port Logistics is building the mechanised Western Dock for 25 million tonnes a year. In August 2026 the authority launched works worth about 4.3 billion rupees, including dredging toward an 18.5-metre draught, and signed mechanisation contracts of roughly 15.8 billion rupees. East Coast Railway links reach the mines and coalfields of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, and the IOCL Paradip refinery of around 15 million tonnes a year sits alongside. Containerised shipments are better routed through Visakhapatnam, Chennai or Haldia/Kolkata.
