Drawing on the mineral-rich interior of Odisha, Paradip on India's east coast ranks among the country's largest ports by volume, handling roughly 150 million tonnes in financial year 2024/25 — overwhelmingly a bulk and energy port rather than a container hub. Through the Bay of Bengal it ships mainly iron ore and coal, with iron-ore exports rising sharply in 2024/25. Its cargo mix spans crude oil and petroleum products, iron ore, thermal and coking coal, and chrome and manganese ore. The port offers 18 berths, three single-point moorings and a Ro-Ro jetty, and its deep entrance channel accommodates large bulk carriers and tankers. The IOCL Paradip refinery (around 15 million tonnes a year) sits alongside it, while rail lines reach Odisha's ore mines and coalfields. For containerised cargo, forwarders turn instead to Visakhapatnam, Chennai or Haldia/Kolkata.
