# Pangnirtung (CA PNT)

**UN/LOCODE:** CA PNT
**Country:** Canada
**Water Body:** Cumberland Sound; Labrador Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 66.1333, -65.7500

Proposed in 2009 and completed in 2013 at about C$40.5 million, Pangnirtung's small-craft harbour was the first of its kind in Nunavut, built to support the local fishery on Pangnirtung Fjord. The harbour serves the inshore turbot and Arctic char fisheries of Cumberland Sound, with Pangnirtung Fisheries running a packing plant in the hamlet. Commercial freight is essentially limited to the annual sealift during the ice-free season, while perishables move by air. There is no container liner service, routine customs clearance or RoRo operation here. For freight forwarders, Pangnirtung is a seasonal supply and fishing port rather than a deep-sea gateway. Larger Baffin Island volumes route through the Iqaluit sealift hub.
